Jake's mump is named Simon. Holt's is Balthazar, because it's “an evil demon that spits fire in my throat.” Balthazar eventually gets a counterpart named Penelope because Holt is not a fortunate man.
Holt accepts the case. While following someone related to the criminal, Jake and Holt are exposed to mumps and are forced to be quarantined at Holt's house to work on the case for 9 days. As time progresses, their salivary glands become inflamed.
Peralta and Holt contract the Mumps while working on a cold case. Terry takes over the precinct in his place, but his ambitious plans ultimately fail.
