Can I join university with E?

If you scored Grade E in your KCSE exams and want to join any public university in Kenya and probably end up doing a degree course then it is possible. However, unlike those who cored C+ and above, E students will have have to go through some stages of learning to join university.

GCE Advanced Level - grades A*(a*), A(a), B(b), C(c), D(d), or E(e) indicate a pass at Advanced Level, grade A*(a*) being the highest and grade E(e) the lowest. GCE Advanced Subsidiary Level - grades a(a), b(b), c(c), d(d), or e(e) indicate the standard reached, grade a (a) being the highest and grade e (e) the lowest.

Passing Grade -The grades O, A, B, C, D, E are passing grades. A candidate acquiring any one of these grades in a course shall be declared as pass. Back in 1897, the letter E used to mean the same thing as F; that is, it used to be the lowest possible grade. However, parents and students found it easier to understand that “F” stood for “Failed” (rather than thinking that “E” could mean “excellent”).

The Duke of Edinburgh Award (DofE) is very popular at Oxford High School. The Award is an extremely worthwhile scheme which offers participants the opportunity to develop existing interests, acquire new skills and develop leadership, resilience and independence.

F GPA. An F letter grade is equivalent to a 0.0 GPA, or Grade Point Average, on a 4.0 GPA scale, and a percentage grade of 65 or below.

Is a 1.6 GPA good? The answer is No. The national average for a GPA is around 3.0 and a 1.6 GPA puts you below that average. A 1.6 GPA means that you've gotten only C-s and D+s in your high school classes so far.

Officially, the Government states that to pass a GCSE exam, a grade 4 or above is required and to pass at A-Level, students must gain an E grade or above. However, a solid or 'high' pass is closer to a 5 or D/E borderline.

What do the E, A, and I codes on my transcript mean? These codes mean the following: E = The course attempt is excluded from GPA (grade point average) calculation. A = The course attempt is included in GPA calculation. I = The course attempt is included in GPA and earned hours calculation.
