Bare Knoll to Cape Pillar. The great part about hiking the Three Capes track on this free route is that the longest single stretch of 16 kilometres return from Bare Knoll to Cape Pillar can be completed without carrying a pack.

The Tongariro Northern Circuit is tough primarily for the climb to the Red Crater. This is by far the steepest climb in all the Great Walks of New Zealand and it is up a scree/volcanic sand slope. What should I pack for Cape to Cape walk?

For most of our hikers on guided tours tackling the entire Track over 5-7 days, a comfortable pair of hiking boots is preferred option for footwear on the Cape to Cape Track. But it's worth bringing a pair of trainers or running shoes as a back up.

Murietta Falls, 12.5 miles round-trip, 4500 feet elevation gain. This undulating hike on the Ohlone Regional Wilderness Trail bisects two steep ridges on the way an ephemeral waterfall. It is considered one of the most difficult in the Bay Area due to it's cumulative elevation gain.
We completed this hike in a day. Absolutely amazing views and definitely worth it. However it is a looonnnngggg hike, not difficult in terms of trails, in fact it is well groomed and the boardwalks are great. The first section from Fortescue bay that connects to the Three Capes Track was a little less maintained.
You can get an annual Cape Cod National Seashore pass for $60, or an annual National Park Pass for $80. Both are valid for access to National Park Service-managed beaches at Cape Cod, while the National Park Pass will also get you into any other National Park that charges an entrance fee.
